Gustav Sculptor, Portland OR based artist. Gustav’s continuous intrigue with the human condition inspires him to explore how to reduce our footprint on planet earth. His everyday choices are driven by what he can do to make the least impact on the health of the planet. Fix everything you can with anything you have.
Gustav is well versed in a wide range of building techniques and construction. Many of his works have been integrated into homes and businesses not only as functional objects, but as esthetically pleasing art pieces. Gustav has honed his sculpting skills to use as many recycled, reused and repurposed materials as can be pragmatically fashioned, pushing the boundaries of the media-encouraged norm to give the dwellers and onlookers a more intimate and ergonomic experience. His ingenuity compels and provokes those who experience his work to look at how we are all capable of changing our consumption habits, reducing trash and saving time/money.
Gustav primarily works in steel but also enjoys working in cardboard, leather, and costume making.
Gustav grew up on a 230 acre farm welding farm machinery, served in the US Navy (90-93) Desert Storm, graduated BFA Sculpture 1997 Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design, Certified MasterRecycler Portland, class 45. He currently manages the 8000 sqft art space Manifestation PDX Art Collective in Southeast Portland where he teaches welding techniques and creative development to aspiring artists.
Gustav has work displayed in Fort Collins Co, Tucson AZ, Portland OR, and Milwaukee WI. Most recently his work was featured at the Metal Mythos art show at the Launch Pad Gallery in collaboration with fellow metal sculptor and business partner, Richard Cawley.
